Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)

Some people who become unemployed during COVID19 are not eligible for EI. The Government of Canada will provide a taxable benefit of $2,000 every 4 weeks for up to 16 weeks to workers who must stop working due to COVID19 and do not have access to paid leave or other income support.  This includes workers in a number of categories, such as people who are self employed or don't have enough work hours to quality for EI.

The Canada Emergency Response Benefit is accessible through a secure web portal starting on April 6, depending on the month of the applicants birth. Applicants can also apply via an automated telephone line.
